Who Attends Summit ?

The majority of our students have been to other colleges before enrolling in Summit Theological Seminary. Many have become so involved in the Lord’s work while at school that they have accepted located ministries before their Baccalaureate Degree was finished. They are completing their Baccalaureate Degree with Summit Theological Seminary.

Others have had to drop out of school for health or financial reasons, and Summit Theological Seminary offers them the opportunity of resuming their degree program without relocation.

Some of our students are men who were converted to Christ late in life, and they wish to become trained in the Bible and the practical ministry to serve the Lord more effectively. Very few of our students are young people just out of High School. The majority of our students are in the located ministry, and have transferred to us from over 150 other schools to continue their education on the Bachelor or Graduate level.

The school prefers the student to be teaching in some capacity in the local Church while attending Summit Theological Seminary. Though this is not mandatory, we feel that this is advantageous to the student in both his learning and communication skills. We feel this demonstrates that his local congregation has confidence in him as a committed believer, possessing the ability and desire to know and “Teach God’s Word to God’s World.” The students who have enrolled with Summit Theological Seminary come from 47 states, plus 29 students from foreign countries. The school welcomes any student, provided he or she demonstrates an open willingness to study God’s Word.

FIRST - Class Participation

This participation is in-person or online classes. The rule of thumb is 15 hours of classroom per semester hour. This does not include outside assignments. Each semester, courses are taught by experience preachers to help men and structure and understand the aspects of "Teaching God's Word to God's World". Women are welcome in all but the Homiletics and Leadership courses. Check current schedule for online or in-class sessions at the SUMMIT SCHOOL OF PREACHING link.

SECOND - Seminar Attendance

Seminars conducted by the faculty require 12 hours of instruction per semester hour, plus the outside assignments made for the class by the faculty advisor. In some cases seminars offered by other colleges may also be used to fulfill the student’s competency. Approval from the Academic Dean is needed before other schools’ credits are granted toward a degree.

THIRD - Equivalency Exams

These exams will cover the field of study in which the student feels that he is already qualified. These are one to four hour exams. Three credit hours are awarded upon the successful completion of the exams. CLEP exams will also be accepted by the school in particular areas of study.

FOURTH - Life’s Experience

The credit granted for life’s experience will be based upon the amount of experience the student has had in a field of study. These must be supported by credentials and will be included in your portfolio. The number of hours are limited to 10% of the degree’s requirements.

FIFTH - Correspondence Courses

Credits will be accepted from sources recognized by this school. Summit Theological Seminary will recommend Liberal Arts courses from one of the 64 fully accredited schools that offer correspondence courses for credit.

SIXTH - Travel

The school will grant up to 6 credit hours for those who submit an acceptable paper on their visit to Palestine under a Summit Theological Seminary approved instructor.

SEVENTH - Competency

This will be the major source of learning and requires that the student work with his faculty adviser in designing the learning program. This can be met by following a prescribed system of study or by taking classes from another institution of learning.

EIGHTH - Thesis or Dissertation

These may be required for the degree in which the student is enrolled. The school will not grant over 6 hours for either one of these research papers. These must be bound and approved before credit is granted.

NINTH - Internship

Students who desire to earn credit for internships must submit an application stating their desire to do so. Summit Theological Seminary will work with the leadership of the sponsoring Church in developing a constructive program for the student. Credits will be open and decided by a student adviser. Students must be recommended for an internship.

TENTH - Transfer

We accept credits earned from other schools that we recognize. Credits from “Diploma Mills” or Humanistic courses from accredited schools will not be accepted.

FIRST TIME ENROLLEE

New students enrolling at Summit for the first time will be charged a $30.00 one-time enrollment fee which should be sent in accompanied with your completed Application of Admissions Form and a current photo for your student file. Potential students can review our “Area of Desired Studies” (see Application of Admissions form) or DEGREES OFFERED (below) to see which interests you.

Summit offers Independent and Online Studies for students who cannot attend the classroom studies but desire to study in the comforts of their own homes. You may attend our live classes on-campus (when available) or online. (Audit students are welcome to attend any classes for free, with the exception of our Homiletics and preaching classes which is offered only to men. Our class material is offered to audit students for purchase, as well.)

**This 5-year degree is especially for students who have a Bachelor's degree in another area of study. This degree will enable the student to have the basic core requirements necessary for entering the Master's program.

Master of Sacred Literature (MSL) - 36 Credit Hours

Tuition Information And Refund Policy

~ INDEPENDENT STUDY COSTS ~

SUMMIT THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY charges $30.00 per credit hour for undergraduate work and $50.00 per graduate credit hour. The student is responsible for obtaining his own study materials. There is a one-time, nonrefundable $30.00 enrollment fee, and for Graduate work, a $250.00 graduation fee. If at least once course is not completed within one year, a new enrollment fee of $30.00 is required.
 
The student may arrange to pay the cost on a monthly basis. Should an account become 30 days delinquent, a $10.00 penalty fee will be added to his account each month thereafter, unless written arrangements are made. No degree will be granted or credits transferred until the bill is paid in full. No monies will be refunded 10 days after the program has been designed and approved by the Board of Regents, and accepted by the student. Be sure our program is for you before you accept the proposed program.
 
If your Master’s degree program is paid in full at enrollment, the $250.00 graduation fee toward a degree will be waived. This means that the Master’s degree would cost $1,800.00 if paid at enrollment, but $2,050.00 (tuition + graduation fee) if paid in payments.
 
Students have one month in which to make a payment of $50.00 on bills totaling over $500.00 and $25.00 on bills totaling less than $500.00. A service charge of $10.00 a month will be added to the student’s bill any month a payment is not made.
 
There is a discount offered to those who pay their tuition in full upon enrollment. Your tuition or bill may be paid either by cash, check, or credit card (MasterCard, Visa or Discover Card).  If paying by credit card, please provide your card account number, expiration date, name on the account, and the 3-digit security code on the back of your card.).

~ RESIDENT & ONLINE CLASS COSTS ~

Summit’s School of Preaching is a program for men desiring to become preachers or men desiring to further their studies. It is a place where Preachers are training Preachers!

When available, Summit’s School of Preaching in-person classes are located at 2766 W. Airport Road – Peru, IN. These classes are all offered online. For a detailed semester schedule, see the SCHOOL OF PREACHING tab.

TUITION AND FEES

The cost is a low fee of $60.00 a credit hour for Undergraduate students and $60.00 a credit hour for Graduate students.

CLASS INFORMATION

Classes begin on Tuesdays and are offered through to Thursday evening. This allows the men time for sermon preparations and travel should they be active preachers in a congregation.

In-person classes are held at Summit’s main location at 2766 W. Airport Road. All resident classes are also offered online.

This form is completed upon the first time of enrollment. Class attendance thereafter would need the current semester’s registration form completed to let administration and instructors know how you wish to attend the semester classes.
